At Dnister, Protecting our Member’s personal information data is critical. We are continually monitoring developments in data security advancements and strive to implement the latest technology to safeguard your funds and personal information. The latest addition to our digital security armoury includes Geo-blocking.

What is Geo-blocking?

Geo-blocking works by limiting access to online content by using the IP addresses to identify your geographic location. Access to online content is determined on the associated cyber risk of your location.

Geo-blocking can be applied in a range of industries and is most commonly employed by streaming companies to limit content to  countries and regions worldwide.

It’s this ability to limit access based on geographical location that we are employing to protect our systems and your data. We have applied this increased security measure to our Internet Banking and Phone App services. By restricting access to these services from some countries and locations, we hope to reduce the likelihood of your details falling into the wrong hands.

Which locations are being restricted?

At the moment we are restricting access from the countries listed on the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with the exception of Ukraine.

  • Afghanistan
  • Central African Republic
  • China
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Guinea-Bissau
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • Mali
  • Myanmar
  • North Korea
  • Russia
  • Somalia
  • South Sudan
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Yemen
  • Zimbabwe

So what this means is if you, or anyone else is trying to login to our internet banking services from these locations the IP address will register with our Geo-tracking systems and access will be denied.

Online access whilst travelling

Our intention is to increase security and not limit your ability to complete your banking remotely. If you’re not travelling to any of the locations listed above you have your access will not be restricted. However, if you’re travelling to any of the countries or regions listed above and would like to access our online services please contact Dnister 3 weeks prior to your departure.

Requesting online access

The safest way to register your request to access online services whilst travelling is through Dnister’s Secure Mail service. This can be accessed via our Internet Banking portal. Simply login to internet banking prior to your departure and click “Service” from the top menu bar and choose “Secure Mail” from the drop down menu. This will open a secure email portal where you can send an email with the details of the times, dates and countries you will be visiting. Our friendly Personal Banking team can arrange access to these services for the time you are travelling.
