Details | Markiyan Melnychenko (violin) and Peter de Jager (piano) will perform a concert of short pieces for violin and piano by Ukrainian composers that are almost unknown outside of Ukraine, including music that has never been performed in Australia before.
Showing the influence of Ukrainian folk song and dance traditions, this music celebrates the input of Ukrainian composers into the treasury of human culture and beauty. As the war continues to rage in Ukraine, this program will also be a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of those defending their homeland, as well as a reminder of why they do so. This concert is presented as a fundraiser for the Ukrainian Classical Music Recording Project, which plans to record three CDs of music by Ukrainian composers, including the world-premiere of never-before released recordings of violin and piano miniatures, as well as chamber music masterpieces and a world-premiere series of violin and piano arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs.
